Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks in response to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announcement that it will delay a decision on the proposal to add the polar bear to the endangered species list.

Senator Boxer said: "The Bush administration has failed to do what is necessary and once again they must be taken to court before they will act. I call on the President to stop dragging his feet and live up to his responsibility to protect the polar bear and the rest of God's creation for our children and grandchildren."
