Washington, DC - The Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued guidance today to clarify which of the nation's waters are protected under the Clean Water Act, and to reduce uncertainty caused by two U.S. Supreme Court decisions. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement lauding the effort to restore long-standing protections for America's rivers, lakes, and wetlands:
Senator Boxer said: "The Obama Administration took an important step today toward restoring environmental safeguards that have protected Americans from dangerous pollution for more than 30 years. This guidance reaffirms certain Clean Water Act protections for America's rivers, streams, and wetlands, and it will help keep our waterways and drinking water sources safe for children and families for decades to come."
