Today, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee Republicans sent a letter to EPW Chairman Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), requesting a full Committee hearing to examine the facts and circumstances surrounding convicted felon and former senior official at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) John Beale's expansive fraud.
"It's hard to believe that the Senate Committee with primary jurisdiction over EPA has given the biggest case of fraud in EPA's history such short shrift," the Senators wrote. "To fulfill our oversight function, it is our responsibility to press agency officials for answers surrounding John Beale's fraud. We must investigate what they knew, when they knew it, and how they responded."
During the Jan. 16, 2014 full EPW Committee hearing with EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, she agreed to return before the Committee for a hearing on how EPA officials managed Beale before and after his fraud was discovered. Vitter (R-La.), Ranking Member of the EPW Committee.
Last week, EPW Republicans released a series of in-depth documents, revealing additional information regarding how senior EPA officials dealt with and responded to Beale's fraud.
