Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the statement below regarding the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) consent order requiring AllenCo Energy Inc. to improve safety at its oil and gas pumping facility in University Park.
Senator Boxer said: "I want to express my deep appreciation to the EPA regional office for acting on the AllenCo mess, and ensuring that the company signed a consent order to address serious health and safety violations at the site.
"Personally, I do not believe a petroleum company like this should be placed in the middle of a residential neighborhood, but that is for the local government to determine. I was horrified when I toured the neighborhood and interviewed women and children from families that had suffered from dizziness, headaches, respiratory ailments, and nosebleeds while the facility was operating."
The facility has been shut down since November 2013, after Senator Boxer called on AllenCo to suspend operations pending a full investigation of its oil and gas pumping facility.
