Washington, D.C. -Today Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, sent the following letter to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) on the House FAA Reauthorization Bill.
Feb. 26, 2016
The Honorable Paul Ryan
Speaker
United States House of Representatives
H-232 United States Capitol
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Speaker Ryan:
I understand from media reports that you are not planning to move forward with the FAA bill at this time, and instead plan to go to a short-term extension.
I want to thank you for not advancing this bill which includes an anti-safety, anti-worker poison pill. The legislation would dock the pay of truck drivers by attacking state laws that protect their pay during bathroom or meal breaks, or when performing necessary activities like loading or unloading a truck. I know we would never dock our employees for taking a meal or bathroom break. This provision has no place in the FAA bill or any other bill.
I look forward to continuing to work with you on bipartisan legislation in the future.
Sincerely,
Barbara Boxer
Ranking Member
