Carper Statement on Trump’s Intent to Nominate Andrew Wheeler for EPA Administrator

The following news release was published by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work on Nov. 16, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump's announcement that he intends to nominate Andrew Wheeler to be Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

“I have a friend who, when asked how he's doing, always says, ‘Compared to what?' Compared to Administrator Pruitt, Mr. Wheeler is better. Compared to Administrators Ruckelshaus or Whitman, he's not doing nearly as well. If the President intends to nominate Andrew Wheeler to be the Administrator of EPA, then Mr. Wheeler must come before our committee so that members can look at his record as Acting Administrator objectively to see if any improvements have been made at the agency since he took the helm."
