WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.), top Democrat on the Environment and Public Works Committee, sat down with several Senate Democrats to hear from some of the young men and women leading the climate movement, including Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old climate activist from Sweden and leader of Fridays for Future.
"These young men and women are mobilizing an entire generation to speak truth to power about the existential threat of the climate crisis, and I'm so grateful and encouraged by their efforts," said Senator Carper. “Their message to Congress is simple: Act. With urgency. We're already seeing the environmental and economic damage wrought by the climate crisis, from the more frequent extreme weather events, to the rising sea levels that threaten my home state of Delaware, the lowest-lying state in the country. These concerned youth are right; the time for climate action is now."
