WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-Del.), released the following statement on the Biden Administration's announcement of the U.S. nationally determined contribution (NDC) for the Paris Climate Agreement, setting a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52 percent below its 2005 level in 2030.
“President Biden understands that the dire threat of climate change presents us with a remarkable opportunity-if we take action and lead by example with the international community, we can protect our planet and strengthen our nation's economy today and for future generations to come. The Administration's announced goal is an ambitious one that rightly reflects the urgency of this critical time: we must take bold action now to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of the climate crisis. That's why, as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I'm working on writing laws, including a transportation infrastructure bill, that will drive down dangerous emissions, tackle the climate crisis head-on, and build a stronger future for us all."
