U.S. Attorney: 55-year sentence of man convicted of producing child porn ‘reflects the depravity of his actions’

A North Carolina man will spend 55 years in prison after being sentenced in federal court on child pornography charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Chief U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger sentenced Jacob Daylen Ross, 47, of Marion, N.C., after he had been convicted by a federal jury last March on five counts of production of child pornography and a single count of possession of child pornography, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of North Carolina. The judge also ordered Ross to be under court supervision for life after he completes his prison term, the release said.

“Ross’ lengthy sentence reflects the depravity of his actions,” U.S. Attorney Dena King said in the release. “Perpetrators who rely on the anonymity of the internet to skirt our nation’s laws and engage in webcam sex tourism, or any other lewd conduct harmful to minors, ought to know that federal prosecutors and our law enforcement counterparts will do whatever it takes to protect all children – within our borders and beyond."

King was joined by McDowell County Sheriff Ricky Buchanan and Special Agent Ronnie Martinez, who is special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the release.

In 2020, authorities were alerted about Ross’ child pornography activities, which included the online exploitation of children overseas in which he would pay for live-stream videos of children being sexually abused, according to the release.

After he is assigned to a facility, Ross will be placed in the custody of the federal Bureau of Prisons, according to the release.
