Today, Rep. B. Carolyn Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight Operations, issued the following statements after the Office of Personnel Management released a memo to federal agencies providing guidance on the implementation of President Biden’s executive order establishing a $15 minimum wage for all federal employees:
“From day one, the Biden-Harris Administration has made it a top priority to support federal workers, who provide critical services and guidance to the American people every day,” Chairwoman Maloney said. “Today we mark a significant step toward setting a $15 minimum wage as the national standard in the United States. If we want to be serious about retaining and attracting the best federal workforce, their salaries must remain competitive. I commend OPM Director Ahuja and the Biden-Harris Administration for continuing their steadfast commitment to supporting the federal workforce.”
“We finally have a President who recognizes that public service is a noble calling and that no federal employee should be denied a living wage,” said Chairman Connolly. “I thank President Biden and his Administration for leading on this and ensuring nearly 5,000 Virginia employees will see a pay increase that can change their lives. Government has a moral responsibility to lead by example, and raising the minimum wage for federal workers is a concrete step in the right direction.”
