The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is beginning its Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) sign-ups for 2022. The deadlines for the program are now available to the public.
Agricultural producers and landowners are currently allowed to sign up for the CRP.
“We highly encourage farmers, ranchers, and private landowners to consider the enrollment options available through CRP," Zach Ducheneaux, Administrator for USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA), said in a press release. “Last year, we rolled out a better, bolder program, and we highly encourage you to consider its higher payment rates and other incentives. CRP is another way that we’re putting producers and landowners at the center of climate-smart solutions that generate revenue and benefit our planet.”
The program is key for the Biden administration’s efforts to address climate change and achieve other natural resource benefits. The sign-up period will last until March 11; the Grassland CRP sign-up will go from April 4 to May 13. Last year, 4.6 million acres were enrolled in the CRP – a number organizers are hoping to greatly surpass in 2022, according to a press release.
In total, 22.1 million acres are enrolled in the program.
