The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently confirmed additional farm service agency and rural development state directors with the goal of improving living conditions in rural America.

President Joe Biden said Jan. 27 that his intent is to appoint five USDA regional positions, which includes four Farm Service Agency (FSA) state executive directors and one Rural Development (RD) state director.

“As we work to build a better America and advance our mission, USDA needs qualified and talented people in our regional offices," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a press release. "These five individuals have the experience and talent to serve on the front lines of FSA and RD offices in their respective states. We are thrilled to have them at USDA.”

FSA state executive directors supervise the Farm Service Agency operations and the implementation of agricultural policy in the state. State directors serve as the chief executive officer of Rural Development in the states and territories and are mandated with carrying out the mission of Rural Development to the gain of all the people living in rural America. The relationship between the FSA executive directors and the counties they serve is viewed as a "stakeholder relationship," according to the release.

FSA state directors are tasked with creating a diverse and inclusive workforce in their state, according to the release.
