Upton Welcomes Supreme Court Review of President Obama's Health Care Law

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Nov. 14, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) today released the following statement after the Supreme Court agreed to hear challenges to the health care law:

“Everyone from business operators and individual citizens to lawmakers and scholars have questioned the constitutionality of President Obama’s health care law, and we have always known that it would ultimately fall to the Supreme Court to strike down this unprecedented overreach into citizens’ lives, health care choices, and wallets. The American people should not be forced to purchase a product they do not want or cannot afford. Much hinges on the Supreme Court’s decision. The American people, states, and job creators are busy preparing to comply with the law’s expensive and onerous mandates, despite doubts surrounding the law’s constitutionality and as a result, sustainability. It is my hope that the Supreme Court’s ruling will end some of the uncertainty facing a staggering American economy."
