WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce announced its hearing schedule for the week of Feb. 25, 2013. Beginning on Tuesday, the Energy and Power Subcommittee will explore private-sector successes and opportunities in energy efficient technologies. On Wednesday, the Health Subcommittee will examine innovative efforts to fight waste, fraud, and abuse on America’s health care system and the Communications and Technology Subcommittee will review whether the $7 billion for stimulus broadband grants and loans was a wise investment for taxpayers. Finally, on Thursday the Environment and the Economy and Energy and Power Subcommittees will hold a joint hearing with all five Nuclear Regulatory Commission Commissioners.
On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will continue its “American Energy Security and Innovation" series with a hearing on “An Assessment of Private-Sector Successes and Opportunities in Energy Efficient Technologies." This hearing will highlight private industry innovations taking place in the energy efficiency sector. Witnesses will discuss new opportunities in energy efficiency, including energy savings performance contracts, combined heat and power systems, and industrial efficiency technologies.as they are posted.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on “Fostering Innovation to Fight Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in Health Care." The hearing will examine how waste, fraud, and abuse affects America’s entitlement programs and the broader health care system. The subcommittee will hear from expert witnesses on how current laws impact innovative efforts to promote payment integrity in Medicare, Medicaid, and private health coverage.as they are posted.
Also on Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold a hearing on “Is the Broadband Stimulus Working?" More than four years have passed since the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act allocated $7 billion for broadband grants and loans. This hearing will review whether taxpayers are getting a good return on their investment, examine recent allegations of waste, and discuss measures that might be taken to promote innovation and avoid certain pitfalls in the future.as they are posted.
On Thursday, Feb. 28, the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy and the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a joint hearing entitled “The Nuclear Regulatory Commission: Policy and Governance Challenges." Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Allison Macfarlane, along with Commissioners George Apostolakis, William Magwood, William Ostendorff, and Kristine Svinicki, will discuss a range of issues before the Commission, including post-Fukushima reforms, nuclear waste, and the Commission’s operating procedures.as they are posted.
