WASHINGTON, DC - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce today announced its schedule for the week of March 4, 2013. On Tuesday, the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee will hold a bipartisan forum to explore severe mental illness and violence. Also on Tuesday the Energy and Power Subcommittee will continue its “American Energy Security and Innovation Series" with a discussion on electricity generation and on Wednesday the Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee will continue its “Our Nation of Builders" series with an examination of auto manufacturing. The Health Subcommittee will discuss the sustainability of Medicare and Medicaid on Wednesday and on Thursday will examine health care premium increases that are set to unfairly hit young adults and middle class families.
On Tuesday, March 5, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hold a hearing on “American Energy Security and Innovation: The Role of a Diverse Electricity Generation Portfolio." Without a broad generation mix, regions may become more vulnerable to supply disruptions and price spikes that impact businesses and consumers. Witnesses will describe how a diverse generation portfolio - coal, nuclear, natural gas, hydropower, and renewables - plays a critical role in ensuring affordable and reliable electricity.as they are posted.
Also on Tuesday, March 5, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a bipartisan forum on “After Newtown: A National Conversation on Violence and Severe Mental Illness." The forum will feature panelists from the mental health community as well as parents of children suffering from severe mental illness.
On Wednesday, March 6, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hold a hearing on “Our Nation of Builders: Powering U.S. Automobile Manufacturing Forward." The subcommittee will examine the current status of auto manufacturing in the United States and discuss opportunities to improve it. Witnesses will include senior executives from auto companies and parts suppliers with vast experience in manufacturing here and abroad who will describe the strengths and weaknesses of doing business in the U.S.as they are posted.
Also on Wednesday, March 6, the Subcommitee on Health will hold a hearing on “Saving Seniors and Our Most Vulnerable Citizens from an Entitlement Crisis." The subcommittee will examine the fiscal health and long-term sustainability of our nation’s entitlement programs. This hearing will be an important opportunity for Americans to learn about the current state of Medicare and Medicaid and what that means for them and their ability to access quality care today and in the future.as they are posted.
On Thursday, March 7, the Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing on “Unaffordable: Impact of Obamacare on Americans’ Health Insurance Premiums." Members will examine looming premium increases that will unfairly hit young adults and middle class families as a result of the health care law. Although the law is not expected to be fully implemented until 2014, Americans are already beginning to face the negative and unaffordable consequences of Obamacare. Witnesses will discuss studies and analyses of how the law is expected to impact premiums.as they are posted.
