Upton Comments on Nominations to Fill Top EPA and Energy Department Positions

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on March 4, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) today issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s nomination of Gina McCarthy to be the next Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency and Ernest Moniz to be the next Secretary of Energy:

“The next EPA Administrator and Energy Secretary have an opportunity to be partners in our effort to put jobs and the economy first, and they also must be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Despite the transition at both agencies, our rigorous oversight of EPA and DOE will continue as we work to ensure the administration’s policies are fair, responsible, and in the best interest of the American people.

“This is an exciting time for American energy and environmental policy as advancements in technology and private sector innovation have put us on a course toward North American energy independence. My sincere hope is that these agencies will come to embrace this historic opportunity and be a partner with Congress in our pursuit of a true ‘all-of-the-above’ energy strategy that allows us to take full advantage of our rich energy resources. We will continue working with EPA and DOE to ensure that we are pursuing sensible federal polices that encourage energy development and middle class job growth, rather than rebuke our rich resources and economic potential."
