WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade today unveiled a new Facebook page highlighting the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s initiative to promote the success of American manufacturers and to help make American manufacturing more competitive in the global marketplace. The Nation of Builders page will be a one-stop-shop of information for anyone looking to learn more about manufacturing in America and the committee’s actions to support this vital sector of our economy.

The subcommittee this week announced the hearing “Our Nation of Builders: The Strength of Steel" for March 21, 2013. Next week’s hearing will feature senior executives in the steel industry who will discuss the state of this important sector of America’s economy. The steel industry directly employs 153,700 people in the U.S. and it directly or indirectly supports more than one million jobs. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, every one job in the American steel industry supports seven jobs in the U.S. economy. In 2012, the U.S. steel industry operated over 100 facilities and produced shipments valued at $75 billion. More information on the hearing can be found HERE.
