The Energy and Commerce Committee’s 21st Century Cures initiative has garnered significant support since its start earlier this year. Now, members of the committee are bringing the conversation back home. Health care professionals and patients continue to share their ideas and first-hand experiences as members host events in their home states and communities across the nation.
The Cures initiative will continue in full force with the following events this month:
* Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) will host two roundtables in Lutz, Florida. The first is today and the second on Friday, August 22. Learn more here.
* Vice Chairman of the Health and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittees Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) will participate in an event hosted by the Manhattan Institute and the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development in Boston on Monday, August 25. Learn more here.
* Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) and Rep. Bill Johnson (R-OH) will host a roundtable in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, August 27 at the Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Learn more here.
* Health Subcommittee Chairman Joe Pitts (R-PA) will host a roundtable discussion in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 29. Dr. Francis Collins, Director of the National Institutes of Health, and Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will be among the participants. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-NJ) also recently held a roundtable in New Jersey with two dozen leaders in advocacy, medical innovation, and academia to gather information and ideas. “The 21st Century Cures Initiative is breaking barriers in its effort to work effectively and efficiently to ensure there is no gap between 21st Century science and the Washington regulatory process, to support medical research and to keep the United States at the global center of biomedical innovation," Lance explained. “This will make a lasting difference in the lives of many and provide patients with the best possible care, treatment and support. …To do this right we need first-hand experience and testimony from people who fight this battle every day. We need the ideas and contributions from patients, health care professionals, innovators and those advocating for a loved one."
