On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will host an Internet of Things Showcase featuring Internet-connected products manufactured in members’ districts. The showcase will precede a subcommittee hearing on “The Internet of Things: Exploring the Next Technology Frontier." The bipartisan showcase featuring items produced by constituents and companies in subcommittee member districts will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Rayburn foyer (located on the first floor on the northern side of the building), and the hearing will commence at 11 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
The Federal Trade Commission defines the Internet of Things as “the ability of everyday objects to connect to the Internet and to send and receive data," and estimates that nearly 25 billion connected devices will be in commerce this year. More and more “things" are now connected to the Internet, empowering consumers and providing a range of benefits. The subcommittee showcase will feature items ranging from household appliances to automotive technologies and more.
“The Internet of Things is truly the next technology frontier, and it is already bringing impressive benefits to consumers and our economy. Many cutting-edge, connected products are manufactured right in our members’ backyards, and next week we will have the chance to show and tell about the innovation and job creation occurring in our districts," said Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX). “We will also have the chance to hear from the manufacturers and innovators themselves and leading experts in the field about the great potential for the Internet of Things and what is needed to ensure its success."
