Look Ahead: Committee Announces Hearing and Vote Schedule for the Week of May 18

WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing and vote schedule for the week of May 18. The full committee will vote on the nonpartisan 21st Century Cures Act. Members will also continue work to build the Architecture of Abundance and conduct oversight of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the nation’s opioid abuse epidemic.

On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will review draft legislation to update our nation’s energy infrastructure and ensure it is secure, resilient, and reliable.as they are posted.

Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hear from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and stakeholders to work to improve the CPSC. Witnesses will testify on the CPSC budget and policies as well as legislation authored by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) to require a study of the mandatory safety standards for Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles (ROVs) proposed by the CPSC.as they are posted.

Also on Tuesday, the Energy and Commerce Committee will convene a markup of the 21st Century Cures Act. This nonpartisan legislation is the product of more than a year of listening to patients, researchers, caregivers, and innovators. It seeks to modernize the nation’s health care innovation ecosystem, encourage greater biomedical innovation, and help get more cures and treatments to patients faster. Members will deliver opening statements on Tuesday and reconvene Wednesday morning to consider the bill.as they are posted.

On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will hear from Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz on the Quadrennial Energy Review and the committee’s discussion drafts included in its Architecture of Abundance energy bill.as they are posted.

Also on Thursday, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will continue its efforts to address the growing opioid and prescription drug abuse epidemic. Members will hear from state health leaders about how states are combatting the issue and explore how policies can better address the epidemic.as they are posted.
