Pallone Highlights Economic Costs of Continued Inaction on Climate Change

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 22, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

“We know that climate change is a global phenomenon that requires a global response, but this peer-reviewed EPA report reminds us that climate change will also have real costs across the United States. This report reiterates that climate change cannot be viewed solely as an environmental issue, but must also be seen as an economic concern that has the potential to be financially devastating. Impacts on food production, damage to our aging infrastructure, and devastation from extreme weather are just some of the effects that unmitigated climate change will have right here at home. If the moral obligation to act is not enough for some, this latest report makes it overwhelmingly clear that climate change threatens to jeopardize our country’s economic future if we refuse to act."
