Members to Discuss Ways to Improve Federal Spectrum Systems and Make Additional Spectrum Available for Consumer Use

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 30, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, chaired by Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, October 7, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Improving Federal Spectrum Systems."

Members will continue their review of spectrum needs in our 21st century economy with a review of the federal government’s allocations and uses of our nation’s airways. Members will review the Federal Spectrum Incentives Act, authored by Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Doris Matsui (D-CA), which aims to provide financial incentives for federal users to improve government systems and increase efficiency.

“Spectrum is driving our 21st century economy, and improving Uncle Sam’s spectrum systems is a win-win for the country," said Walden. “State-of-the-art technologies can improve the effectiveness of government systems and make more spectrum available to meet our national broadband needs. We’ve come up with some pretty innovative solutions working together and I look forward to continued collaboration as we find ways to boost our mobile economy."

The Majority Memorandum, a witness list, and witness testimony will be available here as they are posted.
