WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), has announced additional information regarding its hearing Wednesday, March 2, 2016, on the Zika virus. The hearing will take place at 10:15 a.m. in Room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the U.S. Public Health Response to the Zika Virus."
Expected to testify are Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Nicole Lurie, Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) at the Department of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
In preparation for the hearing, Chairman Murphy and Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO) sent letters yesterday to Dr. Frieden, Dr. Lurie, and Dr. Fauci outlining specific questions the government officials should be prepared to answer either in written or oral testimony for the upcoming hearing. The requests follow up on letters sent by bipartisan committee leaders earlier this month.
“Americans, especially Moms and Dads, are very frightened about the Zika virus. They’re demanding answers on prevention and treatment. We have posed very important questions for CDC, HHS, and NIH, and we hope our witnesses come armed with answers. We don’t want the same misinformation and run-around we had during the height of the Ebola outbreak in 2014. Let’s get this right from the start - too many lives are at stake. We expect next week’s hearing will provide the public with a clearer picture on Zika," said Murphy.as they are posted. See Also
