HEARING: #SubHealth to Review Medicaid Bill Improving Options for Coordinating Care for Children with Complex Medical Conditions NEXT WEEK

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 30, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joseph Pitts (R-PA), has announced a hearing for Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the Advancing Care for Exceptional Kids Act."

H.R. 546, the Advancing Care for Exceptional Kids Act of 2015 (ACE Kids), is led by committee members Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) and Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL). ACE Kids seeks to improve access to care for children with complex medical conditions who receive services in the Medicaid program. The subcommittee first sought feedback on the bill in 2015 during the early stages of the 21st Century Cures initiative. Since that time, members have expressed increased interest in the bill and the subcommittee has received robust feedback from stakeholders. This new language seeks to advance the goals of the introduced bill in a manner that incorporates and builds upon the diverse range of stakeholder feedback.

“Over the past several months, the subcommittee has heard from families, providers, and other stakeholders on how to target Medicaid resources to improve care for children with complex medical conditions and to help family members and caregivers," said Chairman Pitts. “This updated bill enhances the ability of states to improve care coordination for these children, address access challenges, and collect better data to help Medicaid programs improve care for children with complex medical conditions."

The Majority Memorandum, a witness list, and witness testimony will be available here as they are posted.
