Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today in response to Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement that the reconciliation bill to repeal the Affordable Care Act will also defund Planned Parenthood:
“Once again, Republicans are obsessed with demonizing Planned Parenthood and denying women access to essential health care services. Every year, Planned Parenthood provides millions of Americans with life-saving preventative care like cervical and breast cancer screenings and access to birth control. Planned Parenthood is already prohibited from using federal funding for abortion services, and yet Congressional Republicans remain fixated on stripping funding away from the women’s health care organization. Defunding Planned Parenthood is another example of how Congressional Republicans are moving down a path of making America sick again."
