WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) today issued a statement about the spending deal reached by bipartisan and bicameral leaders. The deal includes a number of committee priorities, namely additional resources for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as provided by the landmark 21st Century Cures Act.
“This compromise represents what can be accomplished when both parties and both chambers of Congress come together and work in good faith to find common ground," said Chairman Walden and Rep. Upton. “Among several Energy and Commerce Committee priorities, the Omnibus appropriations bill significantly increases funding for the National Institutes of Health, funding that will help implement the landmark 21st Century Cures Act. Years of bipartisan cooperation fueled the 21st Century Cures Act, and it is only appropriate that the bill’s legacy is an integral part of this compromise."
The 21st Century Cures Act, authored by Rep. Upton, was signed into law on Dec. 13, 2016.
