Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Congressman Bobby Rush (D-IL) will hold a Democratic Forum at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017 in the Library of Congress with public health and gun violence prevention experts to explore public health solutions to gun violence in America.
During the forum, members from the Energy and Commerce Committee will hear from public health experts on approaches to prevent gun violence and the role federally-funded research must play in America’s response to the gun violence epidemic.
“As members of Congress, we need to acknowledge gun violence in America for what it is: a public health crisis," Pallone said. “Congressman Rush and I are inviting our colleagues to hear from public health experts on steps Congress can take to better understand and prevent gun violence in America. I look forward to learning more on the positive steps Congress can take to address gun violence including providing funding and support for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to advance research and evidence-based interventions to keep our families safe."

This epidemic transcends location, race, and status," Congressman Bobby Rush, who represents the Southside of Chicago, said. “Like the federal governments continuing response to the opioid abuse epidemic, we need urgent dedication to and action on this tragic public health crisis. I’m happy to work with my friend, Ranking Member Pallone, on this issue and look forward to bringing attention to public health solutions that protect our communities."
