WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), Energy Subcommittee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), and Environment Subcommittee Chairman John Shimkus (R-IL) today announced Mary Martin as the new Chief Counsel for both the Energy and Environment Subcommittees.

“Mary has been an integral part of our team since she joined the committee earlier this year and we’re looking forward to working with her in her new capacity as Chief Counsel," said Walden, Upton, and Shimkus. “Mary’s background and knowledge on Clean Air Act issues and energy policy will help inform our efforts as we work on solutions that modernize the nation’s energy infrastructure, continue our examination of grid reliability and resiliency through the Powering America series, maintain oversight of EPA and DOE, and work on solutions that empower consumers, spur innovation, and promote the safe and efficient use of energy."

Martin has served as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Energy and Environment Subcommittees, focusing particularly on the Clean Air Act. Previously, Mary served as policy counsel and committee executive to the Environment, Technology & Regulatory Affairs Division at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Before joining the Chamber, Martin was an attorney in private practice litigating complex commercial disputes, including environmental contamination, toxic tort, breach of contract, and insurance coverage matters. She earned her J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law and her B.A. in English from Louisiana State University.

Additionally, Jerry Couri has been promoted to Deputy Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Environment and Brandon Mooney has been promoted to Deputy Chief Counsel for the Subcommittee on Energy.
