E&C Democrats Reiterate Call for Pruitt’s Resignation After New Reports from GAO and Inspector General

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on April 16, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO), Environment Subcommittee Ranking Member Paul Tonko (D-NY) and full committee Vice Ranking Member Kathy Castor (D-FL) issued the following statement today reiterating their call for Administrator Pruitt’s resignation following troubling new reports from both GAO and the Inspector General :

“It seems we cannot go a day without a new development in the inexcusable ethical lapses of Administrator Pruitt. Today the Government Accountability Office concluded that Pruitt’s EPA broke the law when it spent $43,000 in taxpayer funds for a “privacy booth" in his office. Then the EPA Inspector General’s preliminary report raised more questions than it answered. We hope that the Inspector General’s ongoing audit will determine the extent to which Pruitt or his staff are abusing EPA hiring authorities.

“Administrator Pruitt continues to abuse his power in order to enrich himself and his corporate interests. It is time for him to resign."
