VIDEO: Carter Talks About Efforts to Empower Pharmacists During the #OpioidCrisis

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 5, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Energy and Commerce Committee today released the second video in a series featuring committee members highlighting their legislative efforts to combat the opioid crisis. These videos will highlight just a handful of the 57 legislative solutions the committee advanced to the full House in May.

In today’s video, Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) highlights H.R. 4275, the Empowering Pharmacists in the Fight Against Opioid Abuse Act. The only pharmacist serving in Congress, Rep. Carter authored the bipartisan bill with Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA). H.R. 4275 will help develop and disseminate materials, giving pharmacists greater understanding and ability to decline to fill controlled substances when they suspect the prescriptions are fraudulent, forged, or appear to be for abuse or diversion.

“Pharmacists are the last line of defense against drug abuse… They play a very important role," said Rep. Carter.
