WASHINGTON, DC - The Health Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), announced a hearing for Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 10 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “21st Century Cures Implementation: Examining Mental Health Initiatives."
Next week, #SubHealth will get a status update on the implementation of the landmark mental health reforms included in the 21st Century Cures Act (Cures). The reforms included in Cures were based largely on the bipartisan Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, which previously passed the House in July 2016 as a standalone bill by a vote of 422-2.
Confirmed to testify is Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz, Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
“As HHS and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) work to implement these important reforms, many of which were funded by the March omnibus, it is critical we get a status update on their efforts," said #SubHealth Chairman Burgess. “We’ll be particularly interested to learn more about efforts to coordinate mental health programs and services across the federal government, as well as ways to strengthen our mental health workforce."
The Majority Memorandum, witness list, and witness testimony for the hearing will be available here as they are posted.
