Walden and Burgess on Administration’s Final Rule to Expand Short-Term Insurance Plans

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Aug. 1, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) released the following statement after the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced a final rule to allow short-term insurance plans for longer periods of time.

“Instead of trying to squeeze into one-size-fits-all plans under the so-called Affordable Care Act, patients will now have more choices when shopping for an insurance plan to meet their unique health needs. This final rule is a win for patients desperately seeking relief from the law’s unworkable federal mandates and a victory for states’ rights. We applaud the Trump Administration, particularly HHS Secretary Azar and CMS Administrator Verma, for taking this pragmatic action to give patients more choices and states a greater say in the health care market."
