WASHINGTON, DC - The House of Representatives today unanimously passed H.R. 1109, To amend section 203 of the Federal Power Act. H.R. 1109 first passed the House in June 2017, by voice vote. The Senate passed the bill, with an amendment, earlier this month by unanimous consent. The bill now heads to President Trump’s desk for his signature.
Authored by committee member Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI), this important legislation amends the Federal Power Act to expressly include a minimum monetary threshold of $10 million for mergers and acquisitions of facilities subject to the jurisdiction of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). By raising the threshold for review of certain public utility transactions from $50,000 to $10 million, this will help reduce excessive paperwork that bogs down the commission and bring down energy prices for Americans across the country.
“The federal government should be making it easier for the economy to grow and innovation to flourish, not harder," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and #SubEnergy Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “Today’s bipartisan legislation takes practical steps to cut unnecessary bureaucratic red tape, while ensuring consumers are getting affordable and reliable electricity. This is yet another example of the Energy and Commerce Committee eliminating costly, burdensome regulations and providing relief for American families."
