WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy, chaired by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), today announced a hearing for Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “DOE Modernization: The Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response."
Earlier this year, Secretary of Energy Rick Perry formed a new Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The CESER office performs DOE’s energy emergency and energy security functions, including with respect to emergency preparedness and coordinated response to emerging threats and disruptions to the supply of energy, such as physical and cyberattacks and natural disasters. Next week, #SubEnergy will hear from the newly Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary of CESER, Karen Evans, about the missions of the CESER office and the plans for managing and executing those missions. This hearing will be the sixth in the committee’s ‘DOE Modernization’ series.
“The Department of Energy plays an essential role in ensuring the reliable and uninterrupted supply of fuels and electricity, and facilitating recovery from energy supply disruptions," said #SubEnergy Chairman Upton. “I look forward to hearing from Assistant Secretary Evans on the agency’s cybersecurity and energy emergency efforts, and CESER’s role in coordinating energy sector security."
