Bipartisan Opioids Legislation Nearly to POTUS’ Desk

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Sept. 28, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC -Today, the House passed sweeping, bipartisan legislation to combat the opioid crisis. H.R. 6, the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, authored by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR), now heads to the Senate for a final vote and then to the President’s desk to be signed into law.

Chairman Walden and Health Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) issued the following statement following the House passage of this historic, bipartisan legislative package.

“Seldom can we say that federal legislation will actually save lives, but we know this bipartisan package will do just that by improving treatment for those battling addiction, and slowing the flow of illegal, deadly synthetic drugs into America. This legislation builds boldly on our prior work to send help to our neighbors and provide support for our communities. Together, we are getting results and making a difference in the lives of so many who have been impacted by this terrible crisis," said Chairman Walden and #SubHealth Chairman Burgess.
