WASHINGTON, DC - The House of Representatives today passed three bipartisan Energy and Commerce Committee bills. Collectively, the bills promote the use of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and advance public health.
Passing the House today was:
H.R. 6032, the SMART IoT Act, authored by #SubDCCP Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), passed the House by voice vote.
* H.R. 6032 directs the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the state of the internet-connected devices industry.
H.R. 6753, the Strengthening the Health Care Fraud Prevention Task Force Act of 2018, authored by Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), passed the House by voice vote.
* H.R. 6753 amends title XI of the Social Security Act to direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to codify the existing public-private Healthcare Fraud and Prevention Partnership, which aims to identify and eliminate health care waste, fraud, and abuse.
H.R. 2422, the Action for Dental Health Act of 2017, authored by Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL), passed the House by voice vote.
* H.R. 2422 improves current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) oral health promotion and disease prevention programs by permitting the CDC and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to award grants to eligible entities to develop initiatives that improve oral health, prevent dental disease, and reduce barriers to dental care. HR 2422 also reauthorizes HRSA’s grants to states to support oral health workforce activities in order to address the dental health needs of underserved areas, such as the establishment of dental homes and initiatives to reduce the use of emergency departments by individuals seeking dental services.
