WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Subcommittee on Health Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 767 the Stop, Observe, Ask and Respond (SOAR) to Health and Wellness Act of 2018, sending the legislation to the president desk to become law.
H.R. 767, the Stop, Observe, Ask and Respond (SOAR) to Health and Wellness Act of 2018, authored by Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), passed the House by a vote off 386 - 6.
* H.R. 767 would provide health care professionals training on how to identify and appropriately treat human trafficking victims. H.R. 767 passed the Energy and Commerce Committee, by voice vote in July 2017, and passed the Senate by voice vote on Dec. 20, 2018.
“Today the House has passed the SOAR Act, an important piece of legislation designed to help train health care professionals on how to properly identify and treat victims of human trafficking," Chairman Walden and #SubHealth Chairman Burgess said. “We look forward to seeing this bill signed into law. The SOAR Act is another step in the right direction to help victims of human trafficking and it will make a real difference in our communities."
