Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby Rush (D-IL) released the following statement today on the Department of Energy’s (DOE) proposed rules to rollback lightbulb efficiency standards and to revise the Process Rule, which guides energy efficiency standard setting:
“The Department of Energy’s proposal will allow inefficient products to remain on the market for years, costing consumers more money and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. We’re also concerned that DOE is proposing changes to the efficiency standards development process that will unfairly tilt the process in industry’s favor.
“We look forward to questioning DOE directly next week on these short-sighted proposals, as well as its failure to update other energy efficiency standards that would save consumers millions of dollars every year.
“If you care about saving money or saving our planet from climate change, the Trump Administration’s proposals are sending us in the wrong direction."
Next week, the Energy Subcommittee will be holding a hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 10 am in 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building entitled “Wasted Energy: DOE’s Inaction on Efficiency Standards and Its Impact on Consumers and the Climate."
