WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) sent a letter to Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) requesting the committee hold hearings on H.R. 1, the For the People Act of 2019, so that the committee can consider several provisions of the bill that fall within its jurisdiction.
“We may not agree on the policies included in H.R. 1, but we do agree that the Committee should do everything it can to protect its jurisdiction. The first step in achieving that bipartisan mission is to request sequential referrals on legislation when appropriate. Given the Committee’s jurisdictional interests in this bill, requesting a sequential referral on H.R. 1 is appropriate, and when the bill is referred sequentially to the Committee, following regular order, with hearings and markups, will allow Committee members, including the bill’s sponsor, to bring their expertise to the bill," Walden wrote.
