Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act, which prevents President Trump from withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, was favorably reported out of the Committee by a vote of 29-19:
“The Paris Agreement is the culmination of years’ worth of international negotiations, and remains our best hope of mobilizing the global action needed in order to avoid catastrophic changes to our environment, our economy and human health. I’m proud that the Energy and Commerce Committee today passed legislation that would prevent President Trump from withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. With nearly 200 nations party to the Agreement, it’s clear that the rest of the world is embarking on a major new transition to a low-carbon economy. We can either lead that transition or watch as American workers and industries get left behind.
“Today our Committee took decisive action to ensure our economy will not falter and Americans will not suffer simply because President Trump denies both established science and economic reality. I look forward to passing this bill on the House floor."
