WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) made the following statement praising President Donald J. Trump for signing an executive order to improve kidney health in America.

“I am thrilled to see President Donald Trump sign an executive order on kidney health - the first in more than 40 years. This will help the millions of Americans who suffer from a kidney disease by increasing the options patients have, such as increasing home dialysis and encouraging early stage transplants. But more than that, the Administration is also focusing on improving kidney health. This is critical, not only because patients with kidney disease face a lifetime of care, but also because costs from kidney diseases account for more than 20 percent of traditional Medicare spending. This is not sustainable, so I commend the President for, once again, focusing on quality of care and bringing down cost - especially innovative solutions that do both. I look forward to continuing the partnership between the Energy and Commerce Committee and the Administration to advance health care solutions for the American people," said Walden.
