Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Chair Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) announced today that the Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee will hold a hearing on legislation to reduce vehicle-related deaths and injuries on Wednesday, July 24, at 10:30 am in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will be entitled, “Legislation to Make Cars in America Safer."
“At least 20 children have tragically already died in 2019 from unintentionally being left in hot cars. The sad reality is that thousands of Americans will also die and sustain injuries this year on our roads, but it doesn’t have to be this way," Pallone and Schakowsky said. “Lifesaving technology is available right now that can dramatically decrease vehicle-related deaths and injuries, including those related to hot cars. Next week, we’ll consider legislation that would help expand the availability and deployment of those technologies as well as other safety advancements."
