WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) released the following statement on the President’s Executive Order on “Protecting and Improving Medicare for our Nation’s Seniors" this afternoon:

“President Trump and his Administration deserve credit for protecting Medicare for 60 million seniors, and leaning in to make it even better. From championing innovative technologies, to improving transparency, to focusing on our underserved rural areas like Eastern Oregon by expanding telehealth, I am encouraged we are giving seniors more choices and moving toward value-based care.

“Additionally, popular Medicare Advantage plans continue to give seniors more choices and lower the cost of health care. This is a stark contrast from the approach of leading Democrats, who prefer a one-size-fits-all health care system that would eliminate Medicare Advantage plans for 22 million seniors. Socialized medicine is not the answer for our seniors, nor this country," said Walden.

Background

Over a third of seniors use Medicare Advantage, which will be closer to half by 2030 according to the Congressional Budget Office.
