Communications and Technology Subcommittee Announces Hearing on Diversity in the Media Market

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Jan. 8, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Mike Doyle (D-PA) announced today that the Communications and Technology Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building entitled “Lifting Voices: Legislation to Promote Media Marketplace Diversity."

“For too long we have discussed and acknowledged the fact that ownership of this country’s media outlets does not reflect the diversity of America. The data paints a depressing story when it comes to media ownership by women and people of color," said Pallone and Doyle. “Since the Federal Communications Commission isn’t doing enough to advance media diversity, Congress must. We’re holding this hearing to consider legislation that would ensure our media laws reflect the great diversity of this nation."

Information for this hearing, including the Committee Memorandum, legislation, witness list and testimony, and a live webcast, will be posted HERE as they become available.
