WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR), Consumer Protection and Commerce Subcommittee Republican Leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Communications and Technology Subcommittee Republican Leader Bob Latta (R-OH) released the following statement after U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao’s announcement on self-driving cars:
“We are pleased to see Secretary Chao and the Trump administration prioritizing safety by continuing to advance self-driving car policies. Make no mistake about it - there is a clear global race to self-driving cars. To win that race, Congress must act immediately to establish a federal framework that provides innovators certainty and consumers safety. Self-driving cars promise to save lives, restore independence to seniors and people living with disabilities, and reduce emissions and congestion in our transportation sector. We must build on the great bipartisan work we did last Congress with the SELF DRIVE Act and deliver for the American people so we can see these benefits here at home, rather than abroad," the leaders said.
