Pallone on FERC’s Unprecedented Support for Seizing State-Owned Land

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Jan. 30, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today condemning the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) defense of PennEast’s efforts to overturn the 3rd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals decision and seize state-owned land:

“Today FERC took the unprecedented step of injecting itself into a legal battle in which it has no part. For an independent regulatory agency to help a private party seize state lands, all in order to build a pipeline, is as wrong as it is bizarre. FERC should focus more on doing the job it was created to do rather than the one it thinks the Trump Administration wants it to do."
