Walden on New Proposal to Modernize Medicaid

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Jan. 31, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Energy and Commerce Committee Republican Leader Greg Walden (R-OR) released the following statement on the announcement from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of an innovative proposal, the Healthy Adult Opportunity (HAO), to modernize Medicaid.

“The Administration’s innovative proposal to modernize and preserve Medicaid is precisely the offer of state flexibility that Democrats and Republicans in Oregon begged for when I was in the state legislature. Entrenched special interests have launched the typical, rhetorical attacks. This reflexive reaction is all too common; we should all be reviewing the proposal and listening to the feedback. We do know this, the ‘Health Adult Opportunity’ proposal gives our states the flexibility to respond to the specific needs of their constituents. This is how our republic was intended to work, the federal government working in harmony with the states," Walden said.
