Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee Chairman Paul Tonko (D-NY) announced today that the Environment and Climate Change Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 10:30 am in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) recently-proposed lead and copper rule, which would be the first update in three decades to lead and copper drinking water standards under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The hearing is entitled, “EPA’s Lead and Copper Proposal: Failing to Protect Public Health."
“Americans deserve to know the water coming out of their taps is safe. Communities in Flint, Newark and all across the country need the federal government to set clear, enforceable and protective drinking water standards for lead and other toxins. These communities have waited far too long for this proposal, and unfortunately it falls far too short," said Pallone and Tonko. “We look forward to hearing from impacted communities and experts on what must be done to ensure the Trump EPA stops prioritizing costs over public health."
