Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) announced today that the Energy Subcommittee will hold a legislative hearing on Wednesday, February 12 at 10:30 am in 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building on six bills to improve energy efficiency and storage. The hearing is entitled, “Saving Energy: Legislation to Improve Energy Efficiency and Storage."
“The climate crisis is here, and to combat it we must dramatically improve the efficiency and resiliency of our energy infrastructure," said Pallone and Rush. “The largely bipartisan set of bills we will consider next week does exactly that, and represents our commitment to reducing carbon pollution while also saving consumers money on their electric bills."
The following bills will be considered:
H.R. 1744, the S.T.O.R.A.G.E. Act, introduced by Rep. Mark Takano (D-CA), establishes a standard under the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA) requiring states to consider investment in energy storage systems.
H.R. 2909, the Promoting Grid Storage Act of 2019, introduced by Rep. Sean Casten (D-IL), establishes an energy storage research program, a technical assistance and grant program, and a competitive grant program for pilot energy storage systems at the Department of Energy.
H.R. 3962, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, introduced by Reps. Peter Welch (D-VT) and David McKinley (R-WV), promotes energy savings and emissions reductions by supporting the use of energy efficiency technology in residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
H.R. 4447, the Expanding Access to Sustainable Energy Act of 2019, introduced by Reps. Tom O'Halleran (D-AZ) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), establishes an energy storage and microgrids grant and technical assistance program at the Department of Energy.
H.R. 5650, the Federal Energy and Water Management Performance Act of 2020, introduced by Reps. Welch and Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), improves federal energy and water performance requirements for federal buildings and establishes a Federal Energy Management Program at the Department of Energy.
H.R. 5758, the Ceiling Fan Improvement Act of 2020, introduced by Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to make technical corrections to efficiency standards for large-diameter ceiling fans.
