The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Feb. 13, 2020. It is reproduced in full below.

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) and Health Subcommittee Chairwoman Anna G. Eshoo (D-CA) announced today that the Health Subcommittee will hold a hearing on the afternoon of Wednesday, Feb. 26, with Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar on President Trump’s budget request for HHS and its agencies for Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 as well as the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The hearing will include two panels. The first panel, with Secretary Azar, will focus on the Trump Administration’s FY 2021 budget. The second panel will focus on the Administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak with Secretary Azar and other top public health officials.

“President Trump’s budget is a blueprint for this Administration’s plans to slash $1 trillion in critical funding for our nation’s health care programs, including both Medicare and Medicaid," Pallone and Eshoo said. “This extreme budget continues the Trump Administration’s ongoing assault on the health care of millions of families and seniors struggling to make ends meet.

“The Committee will also receive an important update from our nation’s top public health officials on the ongoing efforts to respond to and contain the coronavirus outbreak," Pallone and Eshoo concluded.

Additional details will be announced the week prior to the hearing.
